Featured Kula The Anusara Yoga® kula ROCKS in the state of Arizona. Arizona has figured prominently in Anusara Yoga‘s expansion, as the site of the Advanced Intensive Weekend each winter. This event has gone from a small gathering of a few people to a large gathering of the top Anusara Yoga practitioners from around the world. Paralleling the growth of Anusara Yoga on a global basis, the expansion of the Arizona kula has spread throughout the state. There are now certified Anusara Yoga teachers in Carefree (BJ Galvan), Flagstaff (Ulla Lundgren), Phoenix (Christy Burnette, Meg Byerlein, Mary Bruce), Prescott (Rachel Peters, Cheryl Walters), Scottsdale (Desiree Rumbaugh, Martin Kirk, Jordan Kirk, Paulette Bodeman, Angie Santucci), and Tucson (Darren Rhodes, Bruce Bowditch, James MacAdam, Elizabeth Jean Little). Anusara Yoga's transformational power will break through in a big way this January in Sun City, Arizona, home of the the very first Anusara Yoga Conference, featuring a wide variety of Anusara Yoga teachers throughout the entire weekend! “I moved to the Arizona desert in 1986 to follow my dream of working in the space industry. Little did I know that my greatest journey here would be to explore the inner space of my own heart through the Grace of Anusara Yoga. When I first met John Friend at a 1994 workshop at Arizona State University, I knew that my life had changed. Desiree Rumbaugh helped me to cultivate my growing love for John's teachings through her inspiration and playful heart. In 1998, I met my wife, Jordan, at John Friend's 39th birthday party in Tucson. We became certified in 2001 and opened the Yoga Village studio in Scottsdale in 2004. Now, we travel and teach Anusara Yoga full-time around the world. Since that 1994 workshop, I have watched the Arizona kula grow with incredible integrity and beauty. My heart is filled with joy to be a part of Anusara Yoga in Arizona.”
