Teacher Spotlight

Our Teacher Spotlight this month shines on Bridget Woods-Kramer of Cornwall, England. Anusara Yoga® helped transform the yoga scene in England, which was largely dominated by other yoga styles since the ‘50’s. This past summer, during the London workshops led by John Friend, John commented that the students had gone from being more serious and tight in their practices to celebrating their poses as ecstatic reflections of their unbounded beauty and wild freedom. Anusara Yoga, with the help of Bridget’s dedication, helped create a breakthrough, of sorts, by bringing lightheartedness, spiritual celebration, and joy into the practices of many of our English friends. One of her students, Olivia Penrose Punnett, wrote to let John Friend know what a wonderful light Bridget was in the English yoga scene.
"The reason I find Bridget such an awe-inspiring teacher is actually not just because of her exceptional teaching ability, but also because of her life itself; when she is not in class, but in the supermarket or at home, or doing things you do not associate with the practice of yoga, because I can see so clearly the teachings and the inner peace and beauty she carries there, as if she is continually practicing, in a state of Grace.
There seems no time in her life when I've seen her forget that divinity, and the fact that she applies it in difficult everyday situations is so wonderful, I haven't the words.
I know everyone in (Bridget's) 108-hour training in London was grateful for her time and wisdom, and we all wanted to say thank you. ‘I just give what I can,’ she said, but I wanted you to know how truly special she is. She deserves so much acknowledgement and praise. I wanted to make absolutely sure you knew.
Thanks,
Olivia"
Bridget began practicing yoga in India in 1975 and began concentrating on teaching in 1988. She is Anusara Yoga ’s UK representative and senior certified teacher, having studied with John Friend since 1994. Once credited with bringing the aerobics craze to Britain, Bridget now travels all over Europe giving Anusara Yoga immersions, workshops, teacher trainings, and in-depth study courses.
She is known for her dynamic style of teaching with close attention to alignment detail. Her strong personal practice helps her teach from a place of experience. Bridget encourages her students with enthusiastic support. She teaches regular Anusara Yoga classes, workshops and teacher trainings in the UK at both her studio in Truro, Cornwall, where she is based, and at the main yoga studios in London. Bridget has been married to her husband, Lee, for 19 years and is the mom of two, Hannah, 15 and Ben, 13. Bridget wrote this about the transformational power of Anusara Yoga:
"For me, it's all in the name Anusara – the invocation and the "1st A" –Attitude. Like all great teachings, the 1st chapter describes it and the rest is the 'how to.' The magic of transformation starts in remembering to be in the flow with the universe. I offer myself to the light, the auspicious one.... the alignment; the philosophy supports that and the teachings guide and inspire you, and then the physical poses then either support, challenge, or empower.
I offer my heart....... I offer my heart.
I'm quite a quiet person so I offer the best of me.
Thank you, John"
Congratulations Bridget, on capturing the hearts of your students and being nominated to shine in the Teacher Spotlight.
